Fayette Vacation Leave for Regular Full-Time Employees, Salaried and Hourly ordinance (§ 125.780)

Chapter 125: Personnel Administration System · Article VI. Leaves

A. Vacation will be granted regular full-time employees based on the following schedule:

1. Eight (8) hours of paid vacation leave per month during the first completed year of employment.

2. Ten (10) hours of paid vacation leave per month during the second through fourth year of employment.

3. Twelve (12) hours of paid vacation leave per month during the fifth through the ninth year of employment.

4. Fourteen (14) hours of paid vacation leave per month during the 10th through the 14th year of employment.

5. Sixteen (16) hours of paid vacation leave per month during the 15th and all-future years of employment.

B. Requests for short duration of time [less than five (5) work days] of vacation leave must be done in writing, but granted at the discretion of the Superintendent. The Superintendent may grant any or the entire request based on other leaves already granted. Vacation leave is not to extend beyond earned time unless approved by the City Administrator or Public Works Director. It is the Superintendent's responsibility to ensure enough staff is available for duty to continue normal planned operations.

C. All vacation requests exceeding five (5) workdays must be submitted in writing to the employee's Superintendent at least two (2) weeks in advance.

D. Full-time employees will use vacation leave time in excess of one hundred eighty (180) hours prior to the end of each fiscal year ending June 30. No more than one hundred sixty (180) hours of vacation leave time may be carried forward. If an employee is unable to reduce vacation leave time to one hundred eighty (180) hours at the end of the fiscal year due to unusual or unforeseen circumstances, the City Administrator or Public Works Director has the discretion to allow more than one hundred eighty (180) hours be carried forward into new fiscal year.

E. Vacation may not be taken until the completion of the introductory period.

F. If an employee is separated from service with the City within the introductory period no payment will be made for vacation leave accrued.

G. If, while an employee is on vacation leave, a regularly scheduled holiday is given other employees during that interval, then the employee is due the same as an additional day of leave.

H. Absences due to sickness, injury or disability in excess of that authorized may, at the request of the employee and within the discretion of the City Administrator or Public Works Director, be charged against vacation leave.
