A quick guide to Rocheport’s local government — who to call, what’s owed, and where the rules live. If you can’t find what you need here, City Hall is always the fastest answer.

Just call and say what you need, and they’ll point you to the right direction. A few examples:

Permits, forms, and public records — ask for the City Clerk
General policy questions — ask for the Mayor’s office
Ward-specific concerns — ask for your alderman (Rocheport has two wards, each represented by two aldermen serving staggered two-year terms)

The Board of Aldermen meets monthly; call City Hall for the current schedule. The Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning & Zoning Commission meet as needed — City Hall can tell you when.

Sewer — Boone County Regional Sewer District (billed through Boone Electric Cooperative)
Trash — T-Mac (billed through Boone Electric Cooperative)
Recycling — Boone County; the drop-off bin is across from City Hall, near the Meriwether Cafe, and is emptied every Wednesday
Internet — Spectrum, CenturyLink, or Airlink Rural Broadband
Fire — Boone County Fire Protection District, station house at 104 Central Street. Call 911 for any emergency.

Reminders & ordinances

A few things City Hall likes to remind folks about. A full hard copy of Rocheport’s ordinances is on file at City Hall if you want the fine print.

Pets: Dogs and cats must be registered with the city, with proof of immunization — $10 every two years, per pet, in person at City Hall.
Leash law: Keep your dog on a leash when it’s off your own property (Katy Trail State Park enforces this too), and please pick up after your pet.
Noise: There’s a nuisance ordinance covering animal noise — a little courtesy toward your neighbors goes a long way.
Trash day: T-Mac observes eight holidays a year (MLK Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day). If one falls on your regular pickup day, pickup shifts to the next business day. Please bring your cans back off the curb once they’re emptied.
Yard waste: Skip the yard-waste pile across from Welbern Park (the “fire site”) when it’s flooded — what looks tidy in your yard becomes someone else’s cleanup after the water recedes.
Recycling: The county bin is emptied every Wednesday — please don’t leave extra items on the ground outside it.
Vehicles: Unlicensed, inoperable, or unregistered vehicles can’t sit on public streets or alleys for more than 24 hours.
Property changes: Planning a building project or other change to your property? Contact the City Clerk at City Hall — you’ll need to go through Planning & Zoning for a permit first.
Running a business: Signs, business registration, and zoning (Rocheport has a Historic District) each have their own rules — check with City Hall before you open up or hang a new sign.
Yard upkeep: Keep grass cut and debris cleared, and don’t burn leaves in ditches — they need to stay clear so stormwater can drain.
Alleys: Keep them clear at all times for emergency vehicles, and no ATVs on streets or alleys within the city.
