The Daily Rundown

Tuesday, September 8

Tuesday morning, here's what's worth knowing around Rocheport, New Franklin, and the counties.

Around the Counties

Missouri’s cattle groups are pushing back on a beef import plan. The Trump administration wants to let in up to 300,000 metric tons of tariff-free ground beef over the next 90 days to help bring down grocery prices — but the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and Missouri Farm Bureau say the timing couldn’t be worse for local producers. Brownfield Ag News reports roughly 70% of Missouri’s spring-born calves are sold between September and November — the same stretch as the import window — and Cattlemen’s Association EVP Mike Deering called the plan “a solution to a problem that doesn’t really exist.” Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins wants it reversed, saying it “unfairly places the blame on American farmers and ranchers” after years of drought and high input costs. Worth watching if you’re selling calves this fall.

Boonville’s Pirates are rolling. The football team improved to 2-0 with a 62-20 rout of Marshall on Friday night, per the Boonville Daily News — quarterback Tatum Hough went a perfect 12-for-12 for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and Quincy Hobbs added three scores of his own, according to a MaxPreps recap. Cecil Naylor Field was rocking.

Roads & I-70

All the interstate ramps at Providence Road (Exit 126) remain closed while MoDOT rebuilds the overpass — part of the $441 million Improve I-70: Rocheport to Columbia project, which is widening a 14-mile stretch to three lanes each way. If you normally use those ramps, the detour runs through Range Line Street for now; MoDOT says the new bridge should open by the end of October.
