Drivers can’t cross Interstate 70 on U.S. 54 at Kingdom City in Callaway County from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is closing the roundabout at the interchange while crews demolish two old bridges that sit in the middle of it, MoDOT says. I-70 narrows to one lane in each direction under the work. The Exit 148 ramps stay open. U.S. 54 traffic detours on I-70 to Exit 155 (Routes A and Z) or Exit 144 (Route M at Hatton) to turn around. MoDOT’s weekly work list notes the eastbound Exit 144 ramps are separately closed through November, so check before using that detour.
The work is part of the Improve I-70 project between Columbia and Kingdom City, the same project behind the Route J closure near Rocheport. For Callaway County’s Nov. 3 ballot, see our Callaway guide; live closures are on our road conditions page or at 888-ASK-MODOT.
