The Daily Rundown

Tuesday, October 27

Clouds hang low over Rocheport this morning — about 55 degrees with just a light 5 mph breeze, the same calm, dry pattern we've had most of the week. The Missouri River at Boonville is running 8.85 feet and falling, well under flood stage. Here's what's worth knowing around Rocheport, New Franklin and the counties today.

What should voters in our four counties know before Nov. 3?

Election Day is one week away, and early voting is already underway in Boone, Howard, Cooper and Callaway counties. Most county races on the ballot have only one name, but a Boone County judgeship and the Howard County treasurer’s seat are contested — our guide to those races lays out what each candidate has told reporters. Callaway County voters can find their races and measures in our Callaway ballot guide. If you still need the where, when and what-to-bring basics, see our early-voting guide, and you can answer a few questions to print a sample ballot at My Ballot.

What’s happening in Rocheport this week?

The Fall Colors Tram Tours on the Katy Trail, Wed., Oct. 28–Thurs., Oct. 29, roll along one of the trail’s best autumn stretches right here in town. Wednesday evening brings a Marques de Caceras Tasting, Wed., Oct. 28, 5:30 p.m. And Saturday is the big one: the Rocheport Halloween Party, Sat., Oct. 31, 4 p.m. — costumes encouraged.

Roads & I-70

Westbound I-70 drivers through Cooper County should watch for a lane shift starting Thursday, Oct. 29: traffic will move into the newly built median lanes as part of the ongoing Improve I-70 widening project, KOMU 8 reports.

Farther east, the U.S. 54/I-70 interchange at Kingdom City closes for bridge demolition from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. MoDOT is tearing down two bridges from the early 1960s that sit in the middle of the new roundabout there; U.S. 54 won’t cross I-70 during the work, though the Exit 148 ramps stay open and crews will detour drivers over them, ABC 17 News reports.
