$45 million lands for Missouri’s rural health care. The state is getting more than $45 million in new federal funding aimed at strengthening rural health care, building on earlier maternal-health efforts like doula training and mobile health services. A public say in Katy Station’s future. A Columbia historic-preservation group is holding a free public meeting on the fate of Katy Station, the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad depot downtown — Sunday, Oct. 4, 5-8 p.m. at 402 E. Broadway, with a history presentation and a feedback session on what comes next. Anyone who loves the Katy Trail’s history has a reason to be in the room. (KBIA · event details)

Also on the calendar: Locals Night returns Thursday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. downtown; the Crush Festival at Les Bourgeois runs Saturday, Oct. 3, with a second stop at The A-Frame Oct. 4; and Missouri River Relief marks its 25th anniversary with a party at Cooper’s Landing on Oct. 10 — the same day as Second Saturdays in Rocheport.

Outdoors & River

The Missouri River at Boonville is running 8.16 feet and falling, well within normal range — no flood concerns on the horizon if you’re planning time on the water this week.

Roads & I-70

MoDOT’s Improve I-70 work keeps grinding through our stretch. Route 163 (Providence Road) is closed over I-70 for bridge construction through late October, and several outer-road segments and interchange ramps in that same area are shut down while work continues. Further east, the pavement-widening project between Route 5 and the Missouri River bridge — the section that carries traffic between Boonville and Rocheport — stays down to one 11-foot-wide lane in each direction through December 2027.
