Glasgow Type of Protection Required ordinance (§ 705.050)

Chapter 705: Cross-Connection Control

In short: Where contamination could reach the public water system, the required backflow protection depends on the hazard. A severe health hazard requires an air-gap. A system or health hazard requires an air-gap or reduced pressure backflow device. A pollutional hazard not dangerous to health allows an air-gap, reduced pressure device or double check valve.

Our plain-English summary, not the official text or legal advice. The ordinance below is what counts.

A. The type of protection required by this Chapter shall depend on the degree of hazard which exists, as follows:

1. An approved air-gap separation shall be installed where the public potable water system may be contaminated with substances that could cause a severe health hazard.

2. An approved air-gap separation or an approved reduced pressure principle backflow prevention devices shall be installed where the public potable water system may be contaminated with a substance that could cause a system or health hazard.

3. An approved air-gap separation or an approved reduced pressure principle backflow prevention device or an approved double check valve assembly shall be installed where the public potable water system may be polluted with substances that could cause a pollutional hazard not dangerous to health.
