Fayette Impoundment of Dogs ordinance (§ 205.240)
Chapter 205: Animals and Fowl · Article III. Impoundment
A. Any dog found off the owner's premises and not wearing a City license tag, or found off the owner's premises and in violation of any of the provisions of this Chapter, shall be impounded. Such dogs shall be released upon compliance with said Section and upon compliance with the rabies vaccination and licensing requirements of this Chapter.
B. An owner or other person redeeming a dog from impoundment shall pay, before release, an impoundment fee and boarding fee as set out in Section 205.280. Such fees are to be paid to the City Clerk.
C. In the event the owner fails to redeem his/her dog, and a person other than the owner desires to adopt the dog, the person shall pay an adoption fee set by the City and obtain a license for said animal if the person resides within the City limits of Fayette.
D. The intent of this Section is to require dog owners to comply with the licensing and vaccination laws and not merely to operate an impoundment program. Police Officers and Humane Officers shall, therefore, place primary emphasis upon apprehending and initiating prosecution of violators of this Section.
