Fayette Sick Leave ordinance (§ 125.710)

Chapter 125: Personnel Administration System · Article VI. Leaves

A. Full-time regular City employees shall earn sick leave with full pay at the rate of one (1) work day for each calendar month of service. Sick leave shall be accrued from the date of employment but shall not be taken until the successful completion of the employee's introductory period. However, in the event an unusual situation arises, a Department Head/Superintendent may recommend utilization of sick leave prior to the completion of the introductory period.

B. Sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of six hundred forty (640) hours.

C. If pay is to be granted for sick leave that has exceeded three (3) days, the employee must verify illness/injury through a physician's statement.

D. Use of sick leave by all full-time employees shall be extended by the City for proper cause and concern for the employee's future welfare as a City employee; it is not an inherent right of the employee to be absent from work. Misuse of sick leave shall be just cause for disciplinary action.

E. An employee terminating from the City's service shall not be allowed the use of sick leave in the last two (2) calendar weeks of employment. No payment for unused sick leave will be made when an employee resigns or an employee is dismissed. If an employee has twenty (20) years of service upon retirement or termination, the employee will be paid for half of the sick pay accumulated not to exceed two hundred fifty (250) hours.

F. Illness involving family members of the immediate family requiring the employee to care for immediate family members would make an employee eligible for sick leave with the approval of the Department Head/Superintendent.
