Hannah Cole Primary picks up two grants. The Boonville elementary school received two grants from the Missouri Retired Teachers Association Foundation, according to the Boonville Daily News. Nice bit of support headed into the new school year.
Sharp End’s storefront looks for its next chapter. Columbia is asking for proposals on what comes next for the Walnut Street space that used to house the Shops at Sharp End retail incubator, which honored the city’s historic Black business district and helped small business owners get on their feet post-COVID, per KBIA. The program ran out of grant funding in June; a community input session is set for this Thursday, Aug. 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the REDI Hub if you want a say in what fills the space.

Locals Night and the Bookmobile, same afternoon. This Thursday, Aug. 27, the Daniel Boone Regional Library’s Bookmobile stops in Rocheport at 3 p.m., and Katy’s Fork in the Trail hosts Locals Night starting at 4 p.m. Good excuse to swing through downtown twice in one afternoon.
Roads & I-70
New ramp untangles the 70/63 split. A new direct-connect ramp linking eastbound I-70 to southbound U.S. 63 opened in Columbia over the weekend, part of the Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City project, ABC 17 reports. It’s arriving right as Mizzou students return and football season ramps up, so expect that interchange to feel a little less like a knot for a while.
75 mph on the horizon — but not yet. A new Missouri law letting speed limits climb to 75 mph on rural highways and freeways takes effect Aug. 28, but don’t expect faster travel right away: KBIA reports MoDOT is still evaluating which roads qualify — weighing traffic volume, crash history, terrain, and nearby states’ limits — and doesn’t expect to finish until year’s end.
What’s closed right now. As of this morning, outer road and ramp closures remain in place around the I-70/Route 163 interchange in Columbia (Providence Road, Emerald Lake Road, and Hillsdale Road stretches) — likely tied to the ongoing interchange work above. The Missouri River gauge at Boonville reads 8.54 feet and falling, well below flood stage.
