Columbia School Board is down to five names — and the public-comment clock runs out today. The board is filling the seat Jeanne Snodgrass left when she resigned July 13. Linda Evans, Keary D. Husain, Erica Perry, Paul Wagner, and Michael R. Zweifel have all applied; public comment closes today, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. on the district’s website. The board reviews applicants in closed session Thursday, makes its pick Sept. 3, and swears the new member in Sept. 14 for a seat that runs through April 2027. (KOMU 8)
Southern Boone football opens year two under coach Tyler Tanner. The Eagles went 4-7 last fall before a second-round exit in the Class 3 playoffs. Tanner says the offseason focus has been “improving our speed and strength, becoming a tougher team.” They scrimmage at Friday’s jamboree in Jefferson City (Aug. 21) before opening the regular season Aug. 28 at Kirksville. Boonville R-1 students head back to class Tuesday, Aug. 25. Expect the usual first-week bump in bus and drop-off traffic around town — give yourself a few extra minutes if your morning route crosses a school zone. (Boonville Daily News)

Outdoors & River
The river’s on the rise. The Missouri River gauge at Boonville read 8.37 feet this morning and is trending up, still well under flood stage. Worth a glance before you put a boat in this week.
Roads & I-70
Nighttime lane closures continue on the Boonville–Rocheport stretch. Crews are in the early phases of the $104 million project adding a third lane in each direction between Route 5 in Boonville and the Rocheport Bridge — work that broke ground in April and isn’t expected to wrap until late 2027. Separately, both ramps are closed at the I-70/Route 163 interchange in Columbia (Providence Road), along with stretches of the outer roads on either side. Plan an alternate route if that’s your way into town. (MoDOT)
