Around the Counties

A new documentary makes the case for our trail. “The Trail State,” directed by Chris Ryan and executive produced by Magnificent Missouri co-founder Dan Burkhardt, argues that Missouri’s trail network — including the 240-plus miles of the Katy Trail running right through town — is doing more than giving people a place to walk. The film’s case is that trails are “more than places to hike, bike, or enjoy the outdoors,” driving tourism and small-business growth in towns like ours. (Missourinet)

Columbia is taking a hard look at what drives violence in the city. The city’s Office of Violence Prevention unveils its Community Violence Intervention Landscape Analysis today, a report built with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform to figure out what’s working on violence reduction and what isn’t. It’s open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 1200 N. Seventh St. (ABC 17 News)

Happening Soon

Katy Station’s future gets a public airing Oct. 4. We covered the Save Katy Station campaign’s meeting last week — it’s still on, Sunday evening at Shiloh’s in downtown Columbia.

Grape-stomping season is here. Locals Night is back at 202 Central Thursday at 4 p.m., and Les Bourgeois‘s Crush Festival runs the weekend of Oct. 3-4, with a second stomp at the A-Frame Oct. 4.

Roads & I-70

Providence Road stays closed into next month. MoDOT has MO-163 (Providence Road) shut down over I-70 at Exit 126 in Columbia for bridge replacement; the new bridge isn’t expected to open until late October. I-70 Drive Southeast remains closed through January. And the Boonville-to-Rocheport third-lane project keeps running nighttime lane closures on I-70 itself as work continues toward a late-2027 finish. (MoDOT, MoDOT Improve I-70)
