The Daily Rundown — Tuesday, September 15, 2026

·

Tuesday morning, here’s what’s worth knowing around Rocheport, New Franklin, and the counties.

Around the Counties

Boonville moves on its first new comprehensive plan since 2003. The planning commission has adopted an updated strategic plan aimed at aging sewer lines, thin sidewalks outside downtown (Ashley Road among the trouble spots), and a street grid that’s awkward to connect to I-70. City Administrator Kate Fjell told KBIA the city has shied away from involuntary annexation in recent years, even as the plan looks at new residential and commercial growth areas, building on a recent annexation along Jackson Road for a new ballfield complex. The Boonville City Council takes it up Sept. 21, with budget discussions to follow in December.

Happening Soon

Downtown New Franklin is bracing for crowds as its annual Santa Fe Trail Days festival returns this month, the Boonville Daily News reports — check their coverage for the full schedule as it firms up.

Closer to home: Community Coffee meets Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in Rocheport, and Katy’s Fork in the Trail hosts Locals Night Thursday at 4 p.m. Piano fans have two nights at the Rocheport Winery: Audra Sergal on Friday, Pete Szkolka on Saturday, both starting at 7 p.m.

Outdoors & River

The Missouri River at Boonville measured 7.5 feet this morning and rising, still well below flood stage.

Roads & I-70

The Providence Road (Route 163) overpass over I-70 in Columbia remains closed in both directions — all ramps are shut for the bridge replacement, per MoDOT, with the new bridge expected to open by the end of October. Rangeline Street is the closest alternate route on and off the interstate. Farther west, the Boonville-to-Rocheport third-lane project continues through late 2027, with nightly lane restrictions possible.
