The bookmobile that pulls up on Central Street in Rocheport a few times a month is getting older, and the Daniel Boone Regional Library is starting to raise real money to replace it. The library just announced its first-ever fundraising gala, set for October 17 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia, with proceeds going toward what the library is calling its “Keep the Bookmobiles Rolling” campaign.
The evening starts with doors at 5 p.m., dinner at 6, and a live auction at 7. Tickets run $150 per person, with group rates available for tables.
The library operates two bookmobiles, and replacing both is a roughly $1 million project — well beyond what a single gala covers. As library development manager Joseph Facteau put it, the immediate goal is more modest: to “get enough for a down payment on the bookmobile, or both of them.”
For Rocheport, this isn’t an abstract library-system story. The bookmobile is a regular stop here — it’s back at 205 Central Street on September 10, part of the same fleet the gala is trying to keep on the road for small towns like ours that don’t have a branch of their own.
Anyone interested in tickets or sponsoring a table can look for details through the Daniel Boone Regional Library as the October date approaches.
