The Daily Rundown — Tuesday, August 25, 2026

·

Clear skies and comfortably cool for late August — 68 degrees with a light breeze at daybreak. Here’s what matters on our stretch of the river today.

Around the Counties

Columbia’s mayor is calling out an AI deepfake of herself. An anonymous account has been circulating AI-generated parody videos mimicking Mayor Barbara Buffaloe’s official actions — not sexual or defamatory, but realistic enough to rack up tens of thousands of views. Buffaloe says she’s less worried about herself than about her all-female city council if the tactic spreads, and that Missouri law gives her little recourse: the state criminalizes explicit deepfakes but has steered clear of regulating AI-generated political content. KBIA has the story.

Happening Soon

Thursday in Rocheport: the Daniel Boone Library Bookmobile stops at 205 Central Street from 3 to 6:30 p.m., and Katy’s Fork in the Trail hosts Locals Night from 4 to 7 p.m. at 202 Central Street.

Outdoors & River

The Missouri River gauge at Boonville read 8.41 feet this morning and falling — well under flood stage, nothing to worry about there.

Roads & I-70

MoDOT’s board shows active closures this morning on I-70 westbound, on MO-163 at Providence Road, and on two connecting outer-road segments — all in the Columbia work-zone area, part of 28 closures logged region-wide as of daybreak. Budget extra time if you’re headed that way. For the bigger picture on the Boonville-to-Rocheport widening project reshaping this stretch of I-70 through 2027, see our earlier deep dive.
