Boonslick Library’s Boonville Branch Has a New Home — and Could Use Your Help

·

The Boonslick Regional Library’s Boonville branch has moved into a new, much bigger home, and the library is looking for some help as it settles in.

After 65 years in a former grocery store, the branch relocated this summer to 707 Third Street — a three-story historic redbrick building on the Kemper Campus, built in 1906. The new space more than doubles the branch’s old square footage, according to KOMU, and includes dedicated areas for children and young adults, a genealogy research room, community meeting space, and shelving built on rollers so the layout can be reconfigured as needed. The $1.46 million in renovation costs was covered entirely by private community donations, and more than 43,000 books made the move via Tiger Moving Company.

Library Director Linda Allcorn pointed to the wheeled shelving on the main floor as an example of how flexible the new space is meant to be. During the roughly month-long closure while the collection moved, the library kept some services running — no late fines were charged on items checked out before the move, and e-books and the online “Unearth a Story” reading program for readers up to age 18 stayed available, per KOMU.

Now that the branch has reopened, the library is asking for volunteers to help people find their way around the new building, and it’s hiring for one part-time staff position, according to the Boonville Daily News. Specifics on the role and how to apply weren’t available in what we could access — the Boonville branch is the place to call or stop by directly for current openings and volunteer details.

If you haven’t been in since the move, it might be worth a stop — same library, a lot more room to spread out.
