Around the Counties
Prop 1 holds by 84 votes — Boone County makes it official. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon certified Monday’s election results, and Columbia’s Proposition 1 — a 1% sales tax dedicated to public safety — survived with an 84-vote margin after 55 provisional ballots, 18 tabulator-rejected ballots, and 2 military/overseas ballots were added to the count. It’s a reminder of how close local elections really are: election night had it at 85 votes before certification trimmed it by one. (ABC 17 News)
Boone County’s lettuce-outbreak count climbs to 97. The statewide cyclosporiasis outbreak tied to shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms — the same recall that hit Taco Bell and Walmart supply chains in 29 states — has put Missouri at No. 3 in the nation with 1,095 cases. Locally, Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services had counted 97 cases as of last Thursday. Health officials say the count could keep climbing for weeks, since it can take up to six weeks to confirm whether a sick person belongs to this outbreak. If you’ve had unexplained, lingering diarrhea lately, it’s worth a call to your doctor. (Missouri Independent)

Heat index near 110 today — and the river’s running low. Today’s the hottest of the stretch: ABC 17’s Stormtrack Weather Alert Day stays in effect through Wednesday, with the heat index expected to hit 105–110 this afternoon and next to no rain in sight. Drink water, check on elderly neighbors, and keep pets off the pavement. Meanwhile the Missouri River gauge at Boonville reads 8.67 feet and falling — no flood concern, but a good week to double-check depth before you put in. (ABC 17 News)

Thursday’s a full day in town. The Daniel Boone Regional Library bookmobile makes its regular 2nd-Thursday stop on Central Street from 3–6:30 p.m. — browse or pick up a hold. Right after, Katy’s Fork in the Trail hosts Locals Night from 4–7 p.m., dinner service open to all. Then Friday evening, The Rocheport Winery at Mount Nebo Inn kicks off a live-music weekend with Joe Devoy on piano at 7 p.m., followed by more music Saturday.
Roads & I-70
Clark Lane’s turn is coming. MoDOT says Boone County Route PP (Clark Lane) at Hanover Boulevard in Columbia will close the morning of August 24 for roughly 60 days while crews build a roundabout and repave the intersection — part of the Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City project. The roundabout is expected to open to traffic in October; businesses along Hanover stay reachable by alternate entrances. MoDOT says the closure won’t start until after the new St. Charles Road bridge over I-70 reopens to traffic. (MoDOT)
Still closed this morning: MoDOT’s live closure list shows the St. Charles Road ramps, the MO-163 ramp to eastbound I-70, and connecting Outer Road segments near the Providence Road interchange still shut as that work continues — expect the detour if you’re headed through that stretch of Columbia.
