The Daily Rundown — Monday, August 3, 2026

·

Your five-minute catch-up for Monday, August 3. Here’s what matters on our stretch of the river today.

Election Day is tomorrow — here’s what to bring. Missouri’s primary is Tuesday, and polls across Boone, Howard, and Cooper counties are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. — if you’re already in line at 7, you still get to vote, per the Secretary of State’s office. Bring a valid photo ID: a current Missouri driver’s or non-driver license, a military ID, or a passport all work, and a driver’s license that expired after the last general election is still fine. No acceptable ID? You can still cast a provisional ballot that counts once your signature is verified. If you haven’t looked at what’s actually on your ballot yet, we put together a county-by-county guide last month — see it here.

The river’s on the rise, and so is the heat. The Missouri River gauge at Boonville read 8.99 feet as of this morning — well under flood stage, but climbing, worth knowing before you put a boat in this week. Today’s shaping up mostly sunny with a high near 85 and a noticeably high UV index, per ABC 17. Enjoy it — the Columbia Missourian has this dry stretch holding through Tuesday before a cold front brings rain chances back late Wednesday night into Thursday.

Roads & I-70

The Improve I-70 project keeps crews working through the night on our own stretch. MoDOT’s $104 million effort to add a third lane each direction between Boonville and the Rocheport bridge is underway and running through late 2027 — expect nighttime lane closures and slow down through the work zone. Details from MoDOT.

Farther up the interstate, plan around a couple of longer-term closures: the St. Charles Road bridge over I-70 (Exit 131) is closed for bridge work with reopening expected this month, and the Providence Road bridge (Exit 126) is closed through late October. Beyond that, westbound ramps at Exit 117 (Routes J and O) are closed through November, with a detour posted via U.S. 40/Route 240. In Howard County, crews are doing shoulder work on Route 124 between U.S. 63 and Route 240 — single-lane traffic with flaggers on site. More from MoDOT’s Improve I-70 program.
