Chapter 700: Water Regulations · Article VII. Water Service

In short: Customers must keep their service pipes leak-free and repair any leak immediately after written notice from the Village; if it isn't fixed within 48 hours, service may be shut off. The Village may cut off service without notice if a leak is a safety danger, a nuisance, or wastes a considerable amount of water.

Our plain-English summary, not the official text or legal advice. The ordinance below is what counts.

A. The consumer shall keep his/her service pipes free from leaks at all times. If a leak appears in a consumer's installation, the Village shall give the consumer written notice thereof, and the consumer shall immediately repair the service pipe. If the repair is not made within forty-eight (48) hours after written notice has been provided to the consumer, the Village may discontinue service.

B. If, in the judgment of the Village, any leak on the consumer's installation is a danger to public safety, constitutes a nuisance, or is a waste of any considerable amount of water, the Village may cut off or discontinue the service without prior notice to the consumer.
