Glasgow License and Registration ordinance (§ 205.020)

Chapter 205: Animal Regulations · Article I. Dog Regulations

In short: Dogs over two months old must be licensed, except visiting dogs. Puppies two to six months get a free license; at six months, owners have 30 days to buy a license for $5.00 plus a $0.25 clerk's fee, with proof of rabies vaccination. Licenses expire April 1, and dogs must wear their tag on a collar at all times.

Our plain-English summary, not the official text or legal advice. The ordinance below is what counts.

A. All dogs in the City of Glasgow, Missouri, except dogs coming into such City casually with their owners, shall be licensed and registered, if over two (2) months of age.

1. For dogs between the age of two (2) months and six (6) months, a dog license or puppy license shall be issued by the City Clerk at no charge. After the dog has reached six (6) months of age, the dog must be licensed according to the following Section concerning dogs over six (6)

months of age within thirty (30) days after the dog becomes six (6) months of age or the owner will be in violation of this Article.

2. For dogs over six (6) months of age, dog licenses shall be issued by the City Clerk and delivered by the City Collector upon the payment of a license tax of five dollars ($5.00) for each dog, for all dogs, whether male or female, together with the Clerk's fee of twenty-five cents ($0.25) for issuing each license, together with the presentation of a proper certificate evidencing that each dog licensed has been vaccinated against rabies within a period of time that evidences continued immunity against rabies immediately prior to the issuance of such license. This license tax shall apply to all dogs owned, kept or harbored within the City limits for a period in excess of twenty-four (24) hours. If it is alleged by the keeper of a dog that a dog has been brought into the City casually by its owner, and therefore exempt from licensing, the keeper of the dog may still be reasonably required by an enforcement officer to show that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies within a period of time that evidences continued immunity against rabies. All such licenses issued shall expire upon the first day of April following the date of issuance.

3. The Clerk shall keep a registration book of all dogs, the name and address of the owner, the number and date of registry and license, and such other data as the Clerk deems advisable to be entered therein. The Clerk shall also procure a sufficient number of metallic tags of convenient size and shape, having cast thereon in sunk letters the letters "G.D.L." and the number of the license and the year of issue. The Clerk shall furnish to the Collector, for delivery to the dog owners paying the license fee, one of such tags and a certificate of registration for each dog licensed, and the registration numbers on the tag and on the certificate shall correspond with each other. Such tags shall be securely fastened to a collar, which must be worn at all times by every registered dog. The Clerk shall have the option of having separate shapes and colors of tags for puppy tags and for tags issued for a particular year.
