Glasgow Uniform ordinance (§ 200.170)

Chapter 200: Police Department

A. Every member of the Department shall wear the uniform as the Chief of Police may from time to time prescribe. Each Officer is responsible for the purchase of and the upkeep of the departmental uniform. Every member of the Department when on duty shall carry such equipment as the Chief of Police may prescribe or adopt, and shall when in uniform keep the badge always in sight. No member of the Department shall aver appear for duty in civilian clothing without special permission of the Chief of Police. Each individual Officer shall furnish his/her own weapon and leather.

1. The uniforms may, at the option of the City of Glasgow, be purchased by the City of Glasgow for the Officer as an advance on future earnings. A minimum of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) each pay period shall be deducted from the employee's compensation to cover the expenses of the uniform. The City and the Officer may agree to deduction of larger amounts from the compensation.

2. A quarterly uniform allowance, set by the Board, will be paid to each Officer after the three- month probationary period is passed. This amount may be applied to the unpaid balance of any uniform that has been purchased by advance from the City. Only after all such uniform expense is paid will the allowance be paid directly to the Officer.

3. The uniform allowance will be paid, but will not be included on the employee's W-2 form provided the employee provides actual receipts indicating expenditures equal to the uniform allowance. In the event the employee is unable to account for expenses in this amount, under the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service this allowance will be subject to withholding for income and social security taxes.

4. If an Officer quits or is terminated before the uniforms purchased by the City have been repaid by the Officer, the Officer is responsible for payment in full of all expenses incurred and those expenses shall be deducted from the final paycheck, and if that paycheck is inadequate, the Officer will be responsible to repay the City for any still unpaid expenses incurred for the Officer.
