Chapter 18: Buildings and Building Regulations · Article XI. Moving of Buildings

In short: Anyone applying for a building-moving permit must show proof of liability insurance and deposit a $500.00 cash bond with the city clerk, which covers all permits for 60 days.

Our plain-English summary, not the official text or legal advice. The ordinance below is what counts.

(a) Each applicant for a permit required by section 18-177 shall demonstrate proof of liability insurance in effect and shall execute and deposit in the office of the city clerk a cash bond in the amount of $500.00.

(b) Such bond shall be conditioned that the applicant will indemnify and save harmless the city from all accidents and damages caused by negligence in protecting his work or by unfaithful or inadequate work done, or from any damage caused by the moving of any building, house or structure, or by any unreasonable delay in moving such house, building or structure from the streets or alleys. The applicant shall also condition that he will pay all fines imposed upon him for any violation of this chapter.

(c) The bond shall cover all permits issued for 60 days from such approval and filing of the permits or until the applicant forfeits such bond because of his failure to comply with all of the conditions therein.
