Fayette Introductory (Probationary) Period ordinance (§ 125.530)

Chapter 125: Personnel Administration System · Article V. Specific Rules and Regulations

A. The introductory (probationary) period should be used for closely observing the employee's job performance and ability to adapt to and understand work assignments, for assisting the employee in effectively adjusting to the position and for dismissing any employee whose performance does not meet the required work standards.

B. Time Period. All new employees of the City of Fayette will be subject to a 180-day six-month mandatory introductory (probationary) period. An additional sixty-day introductory period may be extended with the Department head/Superintendent's recommendation at the discretion of the City Administrator or the Public Works Director with the approval of the Board of Aldermen.

C. If the City Administrator or Public Works Director chooses to extend the introductory period of any employee for any given period of time [not to exceed the maximum period of sixty (60) additional days allowed under these rules], the City Clerk or Department Head/Superintendent will notify the employee in writing of the extension. A copy of this notification will be placed in the employee's personnel file and the Board of Aldermen will be notified.

D. Dismissal During The Introductory (Probationary) Period Or Extension. The Department Head/Superintendent and the City Administrator or Public Works Director may recommend to the Board of Aldermen to dismiss the employee at any time during the introductory (probationary) period without statement of reason or notice.
