Chapter 2: Administration · Division 5. City Attorney and City

(a) The annual salary of the city attorney for the city, as that position is established and described in division 5 of article III of the Code of General Ordinances for the City, shall be the amount of $40,000.00 per year. This salary shall be effective from and after the first general election for the city occurring after passage of the ordinance from which this section derives, in which a city attorney shall be elected.

(b) Every two years after this salary shall become effective, and prior to the beginning of the filing period for the municipal general election for the city at which the position of city attorney shall be on the ballot, the city council shall review the salary provisions set out in this section 2-77. At the time of such review, the city council, in its sole discretion, may elect to adjust the annual salary of the city attorney by an amount not to exceed the application of the consumer price index percentage to the salary which was in effect during the previous two-year period. In the event the city council shall elect to make an adjustment in salary to the position, such adjustment shall be prospective and not retroactive. For years in which no election shall be made to adjust such salary, it shall remain the same as during the previous two-year period.
