Missouri’s congressional map fight has a new wrinkle: the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the Republican-drawn map Monday, but paused its own order for seven days to give the U.S. Supreme Court a chance to weigh in, according to Missourinet. People Not Politicians Missouri has filed an emergency appeal. In the meantime, county election officials were required to have hard-copy absentee ballots in the mail by today, Sept. 22.
Missouri voters will decide, for the third time in three years, whether abortion stays legal in the state. Amendment 3 on the Nov. 3 ballot would repeal the 2024 amendment that legalized abortion and replace it with a near-total ban, with exceptions for medical emergencies, fetal anomaly, and rape or incest reported within 12 weeks, per KBIA.
Good news out of Boone County: the Veterans United Foundation is giving Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity a $50,000 grant, funded by Veterans United Home Loans employees. The money will help buy materials for the first five homes in Phase 2 of the Boone Prairie subdivision, a planned 143-home affordable-housing development where 22 families already live, according to Inside Columbia.

Roads & I-70
A somber note from the interstate: a 48-year-old man from St. Joseph died Monday evening when his motorcycle overturned on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 99 in Cooper County and he was struck by a following car. He was wearing a helmet. The Highway Patrol closed the roadway for about three hours while investigating, and traffic backed up roughly two miles, per ABC 17 News.
Separately, MoDOT’s live closures list shows ongoing ramp and outer-road closures at the MO-163/I-70 interchange near Providence Road in Columbia — plan an alternate route if you’re headed that way this morning.
