Around the Counties

Boone County election officials are already mailing ballots even as Missouri’s congressional map fight heads back to federal court. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon told the Missouri Independent that once a ballot is in a tabulator “you cannot pull a voted ballot back out and redo it,” a real headache if the district lines change mid-count. Missourinet reports the U.S. Supreme Court has already sent the case back to the federal appeals court twice.

Friday night was a mixed bag for local teams. The Boonville Pirates’ undefeated run ended in a 29-14 loss to the Indians, dropping the football team to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the TCC. Pilot Grove’s baseball team had better luck, steamrolling Higbee 17-3 to push its win streak to 6-0. And on the cross-country course, New Franklin sophomore Ryder Dorson took the individual crown at Saturday’s Central Activities Conference meet, according to the Boonville Daily News.

Rocheport’s Thursday lineup is worth circling: the Daniel Boone Library Bookmobile stops on Central Street from 3–6:30 p.m., and Locals Night follows at Katy’s Fork in the Trail from 4–7 p.m. If you’re headed into Columbia this week, the Pixies play Wednesday, Modest Mouse and Locals Night overlap Thursday, Randall King plays Friday, and Mid-Missouri Pridefest takes over Saturday.

Roads & I-70

MoDOT’s Central District has a busy work week planned (Sept. 21–27). In Columbia, multiple I-70 on-ramps close Sept. 22–23 for construction, and the I-70/U.S. 63 connector closes Sept. 25–26 for flyover girder work. Route 163 (Providence Road) stays closed over I-70 for bridge work through late October, and the westbound I-70 ramps at Exit 117 (Routes J and O) remain closed through November — both already showing as closed in our live roads feed this morning, along with outer-road closures near Old Route 40. Longer term, the Cooper County pavement-widening project between Route 5 in Boonville and the Missouri River bridge continues with lane closures and an 11-foot width restriction through December 2027.
