Wednesday morning, here’s what’s worth knowing around Rocheport, New Franklin, and the counties.
Around the Counties
The map fight isn’t over. Missouri’s Supreme Court this week ordered Secretary of State Denny Hoskins to certify two petitions for November’s ballot — one on congressional redistricting, another limiting lawmakers’ power to overturn voter-approved measures. Hours later, Missouri Republicans asked the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to block the redistricting referendum and force the 2025 map back into use instead. If that sounds familiar, it’s the same fight that briefly scrambled early ballots here in Boone, Howard, and Cooper counties two weeks ago. Worth watching before November. (via Missouri Independent)

Outdoors & River
The Missouri River gauge at Boonville read 7.54 feet this morning, flow holding around 44.8 kcfs — no flood stage, trend steady. A calm stretch for the trail and the water alike.
Roads & I-70
MoDOT wants to hear from you before it finalizes a safety redesign at two Columbia intersections: Route 763 (College Avenue) at University Avenue and Rollins Street, and Boone County Route B (Paris Road) at East Brown Station Road. There’s an open-house meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22, 4:30–6 p.m., at the General Services Building (900 E. Stadium Blvd, Room 194A) — no formal presentation, come and go as you like. Can’t make it? Comments are open through Oct. 6 by mail, email, or MoDOT’s online form.
Closer to home, ramps at the I-70/Providence Road (MO-163) interchange in Columbia remain closed while that work continues, along with stretches of the Outer Road on both sides of I-70 — budget extra time if that’s part of your commute.
And the Boonville-to-Rocheport third lane keeps grinding along: MoDOT’s $104 million widening of I-70 between Route 5 in Boonville and the Rocheport bridge is still on track for completion in late 2027.
