The Rocheport Tunnel is one of the most photographed spots on the Katy Trail State Park. Originally constructed in 1893 for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy) Railroad, the tunnel stretches 243 feet through solid limestone just west of Rocheport. When the railroad ceased operations in the 1980s, the corridor was converted into one of America’s premier rail-trail systems. Today thousands of cyclists and hikers pass through the tunnel each year, its cool dark interior offering welcome relief on summer rides along the Missouri River bluffs.
The tunnel is located near Second Street and serves as the unofficial western gateway to downtown Rocheport for trail users.
