Teachers and staff at Hannah Cole Primary in Boonville have a bit more in their classroom supply closets this fall, courtesy of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association Foundation.
The MRTA Foundation awarded the Boonville R-1 school two grants this month, and the first is one every teacher can appreciate: $500 for classroom supplies, presented by local MRTA members to the Hannah Cole Primary staff, according to the Boonville Daily News.
The grant landed with seven teachers and staff members — Robin Bishop, Hillary Bare, Hunter Collyott, Aubrey Webster, Kari Reams, Morgan Mustion and Abby Roach — pictured alongside four MRTA members who helped make it happen: Gretchen Twenter, Margaret Scott, Wendy Bernier and Linda Hoover.
The Missouri Retired Teachers Association Foundation raises money through its retired-teacher membership to fund grants like this one for working classrooms around the state — a way for teachers who’ve put in their years at the front of the room to keep giving back to the ones who came after them.
It’s the kind of grant that goes further than its dollar figure suggests: $500 in a classroom can be the difference between asking families to chip in for glue sticks and folders, and just having them on hand when the first day of school rolls around.
The Daily News reports Hannah Cole Primary received a second MRTA Foundation grant as well; details on that award weren’t available at publication.
