The Daily Rundown — Monday, July 27, 2026

·

Stay cool today — the heat warning isn’t easing up. The National Weather Service’s Extreme Heat Warning for mid-Missouri stays in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday, with heat index values climbing as high as 113. That’s an extra day tacked onto the same heat wave we flagged in Sunday’s river-conditions piece. Drink water, check on neighbors, and keep pets and kids out of the sun when you can. (ABC 17 News; more on this week’s heat and river conditions.)

Happening Soon

Beef bolognese tonight at the winery. The Rocheport Winery at Mount Nebo Inn is serving beef bolognese from 5 to 8 p.m. today at 801 First Street. (Event details.)

Outdoors & River

River’s holding steady. The Missouri River gauge at Boonville read 7.06 feet this morning — essentially unchanged from Sunday’s 7.03 and still well under flood stage. We covered what that means for this week’s MR340 racers in Sunday’s piece.

Roads & I-70

Closures cluster on the west side of Columbia. MoDOT’s traveler map shows several closures this morning around the I-70/MO-163 interchange and Providence Road — County Road St. Charles, the MO-163 ramp to I-70 East, and two stretches of Outer Road 70 are all closed. That’s a different stretch of I-70 than the Boonville-to-Rocheport third-lane project we covered yesterday — MoDOT’s project page reports no new closures on our stretch today, just the ongoing work through late 2027. If your morning drive runs through west Columbia, budget extra time.
