Lane Closures on US 63 North of Columbia Start Nov. 4

Single-lane closures on US 63 north of Columbia begin Nov. 4 as MoDOT paints the Wagon Trail Road bridge; five more bridges follow into February.

Drivers on U.S. 63 just north of Columbia should expect single-lane closures starting Nov. 4 as crews paint the Wagon Trail Road bridge over the highway.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced the work Thursday. Crews will apply a protective coating to the bridge’s supporting structure, with closures on both U.S. 63 and Wagon Trail Road for roughly two weeks:

  • Nov. 4-9: daytime single-lane closures, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Nov. 9-16: overnight single-lane closures, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

MoDOT says most of the work will have little effect on traffic, and that all work is weather-permitting and subject to change. It is separate from the Clark Lane sidewalk work that starts Nov. 3 and from the I-70 lane shift near Boonville.

Five more bridges later

The Wagon Trail Road bridge is the first of six in a project spanning Boone, Cole and Moniteau counties. MoDOT lists the rest in this order:

  • U.S. 63 bridges over Boone County Route B (Paris Road) in Columbia: late November or early December
  • Missouri Route 179 over Moniteau Creek in Moniteau County: early to mid-January
  • Moniteau County Route U over Howard Creek: early February
  • Westbound U.S. 54 over the Neighorn Branch in Cole County: late February

Those are projected start dates and may shift with the weather.
