Route 163 (Providence Road) stays closed over I-70 in Columbia; one ramp reopens Oct. 31, two more in early November, the new bridge mid-November.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) listed the schedule in its Oct. 30 Central District work plan for Nov. 2 through 8. The road is closed over the interstate for bridge construction in Boone County.
When things reopen
- Morning of Oct. 31: the eastbound I-70 off-ramp is expected to reopen, with access to Providence Road south of I-70 only.
- Early November: both westbound ramps are expected to reopen.
- Mid-November 2026: the new bridge and the eastbound on-ramp are expected to open.
MoDOT says all work is weather permitting and schedules can change. The work is part of the Improve I-70 program.
Other Boone County closures
- I-70 Drive Southeast: closed from just west of Woodridge Drive to Glenstone Drive for a new underpass. A signed detour is in place, and MoDOT expects it to reopen in January 2027.
- North Outer Road 70: closed at Cedar Creek, west of Route J (near mile marker 136.6), through January 2027.
- Routes J and O at Exit 117: the westbound I-70 ramps are closed through mid-December. See our story on the Route J interchange.
- Clark Lane: sidewalk work continues. See Clark Lane sidewalk work.
