Around the Counties
Boone Electric members vote Sept. 10 on tighter rules for board candidates. The cooperative is asking members to approve raising the petition signature requirement from 0.25% to 1% of the membership (roughly 50 signatures up to about 60) and shortening the nominating window from 90 to 50 days. Manager Laura Baker says the change reflects how much the co-op has grown; state Rep. Gregg Bush (D-Columbia) calls it “anti-democratic” and harder for everyday member-owners to run. Members can vote by drive-through (6-8 p.m.) or in person (5-5:30 p.m.) at co-op headquarters, 1515 Rangeline Road, and everyone who votes gets a $20 utility bill credit. (Columbia Missourian)
Outdoors & Weather
The heat isn’t done with us yet. Forecasters are calling for highs in the mid-90s to low 100s and heat index values around 100-105°F for at least the next 7-10 days, with National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Perez warning the stretch could push into mid-September before real relief arrives. It’s a drier heat than we’ve had, but overnight lows only easing into the mid-to-upper 70s means bodies don’t get much of a break — hydrate, check on elderly neighbors, and give pets shade and water. (Missourinet) The Missouri River gauge at Boonville is holding steady at 7 feet and falling, well within banks, so river conditions themselves aren’t a heat-driven worry right now.

Roads & I-70
MoDOT’s traveler map is currently showing several closures on the I-70/MO-163 interchange area east of Columbia, including outer-road segments and both interstate-to-163 ramps. If your route into or out of Columbia runs through that interchange, expect to detour — check MoDOT’s live traveler map before you head out.
