A hard copy of the official guidelines for Rocheport can be found at the City Hall.

  1. All dogs and cats must be registered with the city and each animal needs proof of immunization. The fee is $10 every 2 years for each pet. You must register your pet in person at City Hall during regular business hours.
  2. There is a Nuisance Ordinance that pertains to animal or pet noises. Please consider your neighbors if you have an animal that likes to bark.
  3. There is a leash law requiring your dog be controlled by a physical leash at all times when not on your property. Katy Trail State Park also enforces a leash law. In addition, out of respect for our city, neighbors and children playing, please pick up your dog waste and deposit it in your personal trash.
  4. T-Mac, our trash collector has eight (8) holidays, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If any of these holidays fall on a Monday, our current trash pickup day, the pickup will be the following business day.
  5. After trash pickup, please remove your trash cans from the street curb and store them neatly on your property.
  6. Please do not deposit yard waste, tree cuttings, etc. at the yard waste pile across from Welbern Park (called by locals the “fire site”), if the property is flooded. Your yard might look tidier, but what is left after a flood creates a mess that someone else has to clean up.
  7. The town recycling bin is provided and maintained by Boone County. The recycle bin is picked up every Wednesday. Please do not deposit items outside of the bin on the ground if the bin is full. Boone County will not pick up any recyclable items left outside of the designated recycle bin.
  8. Abandoned, unlicensed, inoperable or unregistered (expired tags) vehicles parked on public streets, alleys or places in the City of Rocheport for longer than 24 hours are prohibited.
  9. All ordinances and laws are available to the public. A copy of each specific ordinance may be obtained at City Hall during regular business hours.
  10. If you plan on making any changes to your property, it is necessary to present your plans to the Planning and Zoning Commission in order to obtain a building permit from the city. Contact the City Clerk at the City Hall for forms.
  11. There are rules for businesses, including:
    1. a sign/merchant ordinance,
    2. business registration, and
    3. restrictions by zones. Rocheport has a Historic District, etc.
  12. We have a Boone County Fire Department station house located at 104 Central Street. Please call 911 for all emergencies.
  13. Each resident is responsible for cutting grass and removing leaves and debris on their property. Burning leaves is not permitted in ditches. Ditches must be kept clean so stormwater in culverts will drain easily.
  14. Alleys are to be kept clear at all times for emergency vehicles.
  15. No ATVs on streets or alleys within the city.
