Rocheport Saturday evenings do not get much better than when there is free music, a classy lounge, and a friendly crowd. This week’s music at Mount Nebo Inn featured Augusta’s Ensemble, a duo consisting of Augusta Cooper on the upright bass and Samuel Luetkemeyer on the piano and keyboard.
The classy pair of musicians were captivating, playing jazz favorites like Ella Fitzgerald, Grover Washington Jr., and Chet Baker while also bringing a taste of newer music like Sade into the mix. Luetkemeyer would seamlessly move from piano to keyboard while mid-song, making him mesmerizing to watch. Both Cooper and Luetkemeyer had voices that did these songs justice and then some. Part of what made the music so sophisticated and pleasurable was its simplicity of only two instruments and two voices resulting in dynamic arrangements and varied acoustic flavors.
The atmosphere at Mount Nebo Inn was relaxed and inviting
Locals and town guests alike gathered at Mount Nebo Inn which offers local brewery selections and a variety of choice wines. This was a magical evening, bringing together friends and strangers with the commonality of enjoying the lovely background music and stylish venue. While at times the audience became quiet, intently listening to the ensemble, for the most part, lively banter filled the room. The ebb and flow of music paired perfectly with the ebb and flow of conversation, neither overpowering the other.
One of the great features of Mount Nebo Inn is its walkability for bed and breakfast guests in Rocheport. This makes it a perfect destination for those who are open to a short stroll after having their dinner. For those coming in from out of town, there is plenty of parking as well. This venue is both flourishing and perfect just the way it is. And these musicians are sure to be welcomed back.
