Air Link’s fiber service is being rolled out

Our experience with Air Link's fiber service gets it start. It's a process so be prepared to for four to eight weeks to use the service.

One household’s experience setting up the new fiber service

When Air Link’s fiber service was available to the town, Roman and I initially did not think we would be switching our internet services because of their original pricing structures. Since service is now available in Rocheport, Air Link has since adjusted their prices and offers which warranted us to check into it further.

We called the sales team at Air Link and made the typical inquiries: cost, taxes, contracts, install fees, and router fees. We concluded it was a better deal than what we currently had. A couple of neat takeaways about the new fiber service:

  • Taxes are included
  • Router costs are included
  • No contracts
  • You can change your service up or down with no additional costs

After learning that not only are the taxes included in the price but the modem is as well, it definitely made sense for us to switch to the faster service. Plus the contract is month to month, which always feels like a bit of a comfort when signing up with a new company.

Getting the installation is a step-by-step process

Once initiated, the whole process for the installation of Air Link’s fiber service takes between four to eight weeks to get set up. The first step was to give our signature to approve Dig Rite to mark our property and also to confirm that no other lines, like a sprinkler system or gutter lines, are in our yard that Dig Rite would not find. After everything is marked, Air Link will come to our house to drop the fiber in the ground from the right of way to our house. They explain that the “crew uses a vibratory drop plow to knife the fiber into the ground (anywhere from 6-20″ deep),” which I think sounds high-tech but may not actually be that fancy. Then, the “splice crew” follows up to activate the fiber outside of the house.

Lastly, Air Link will reach out after each part is complete to schedule the interior installation of the modem to the outside hookup. We are looking forward to, what we hope, is an easy transition and better browsing experience — we just need to be patient a little while longer.
