Northern Cardinal

Missouri’s state bird and a common sight in Rocheport year-round. The male’s brilliant red plumage is unmistakable at feeders and in garden shrubs. Cardinals don’t migrate and are often among the first birds heard singing in late winter. Females are warm brown with reddish tints and a prominent crest.
