The Daily Rundown — Thursday, August 27, 2026

·

Clear and calm this morning — 64 degrees at daybreak with barely a breath of wind, about as pleasant as late August gets. Here’s what matters on our stretch of the river today.

Around the Counties

Boone County just set its funding roadmap for kids’ services. The Boone County Children’s Services Board has approved new funding priorities and a long-term strategy for the Children’s Services Fund, built around three focus areas — treatment (mental and behavioral health), safety (abuse, neglect, and violence), and basic needs (family stability and immediate assistance) — and a goal of building a 20% reserve by 2030. The new priorities take effect with the 2027 grant cycle, according to Boone County Government.

Happening Soon

Today: the Bookmobile and Locals Night. Daniel Boone Regional Library’s Bookmobile stops at 205 Central Street at 3 p.m., followed by the regular Thursday Locals Night gathering at 4 p.m. at Katy’s Fork in the Trail.

Free workshop teaches faith communities how to prepare for trouble. Boone County’s Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are hosting a free Faithful Readiness Workshop on Oct. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Boone Electric Cooperative in Columbia, for anyone from a local church, mosque, synagogue, or other faith community. Lunch is included, and registration closes Sept. 30, per Boone County Government.

Outdoors & River

River’s easing back down. The Missouri River at Boonville is running 8.54 feet and falling, still comfortably under flood stage.

Roads & I-70

Providence Road’s ramps at I-70 are still closed. Both directions’ ramps at the Providence Road interchange in Columbia remain shut for bridge work under MoDOT’s Improve I-70 project, with the Range Line Street ramps still the detour — we covered the detour details yesterday.
