Two more bridges on our stretch of the river are reaching the end of the road. MoDOT says it’s replacing the Business Route 240 bridge and the Route 3 bridge over the CPKC Railroad, both just east of Glasgow in Howard County — and both built back in the 1930s and ’40s, long past their useful life.
The Business 240 bridge went up in 1934. The Route 3 bridge followed in 1941. MoDOT says both have “reached the end of their useful lives,” which in plain terms means: it’s cheaper and safer to build new than to keep patching what’s there. Each bridge will close, with a signed detour, while its replacement goes in.
If you drive Route 3 or Business 240 through that stretch — commuting into Glasgow, hauling grain, or just cutting across Howard County — this is worth putting on your calendar now, before the closures actually start.
Have your say before September 17
MoDOT is holding a public meeting on the project Thursday, September 3, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Armstrong City Hall, 106 Halley Street in Armstrong. It’s an open-house format — no formal presentation, just project staff on hand to answer questions and walk through the plans one-on-one.
Can’t make the meeting? The comment period runs August 27 through September 17, and MoDOT is taking input three ways:

Construction itself isn’t imminent — MoDOT is targeting 2027 or 2028, depending on how contractor scheduling shakes out. But the comment window is the point in the process where local input actually shapes the plan, particularly on how the detours get routed while each bridge is out.
