Amber House Bed & Breakfast sits at 705 Third Street in Rocheport, two blocks up from the Katy Trail. Dawson and Sherri Claridge run it, and between them they bring more than twenty years of hospitality experience to the place. It is a small operation on purpose: four suites, no more than eight guests at a time. If you want a front-desk-and-elevator hotel, this isn’t it. If you want someone who knows the town to hand you coffee in the morning, it is.
The four suites sleep up to eight people total, and some rooms have jetted tubs, which are worth asking about when you book. Every guest gets the run of the common spaces and the complimentary bikes by the door — the trail is close enough that you can be rolling on it a few minutes after breakfast.
Breakfast is the part guests talk about. Dawson cooks a multi-course, made-from-scratch meal each morning — not a continental spread, an actual sit-down. If you want dinner too, the Claridges offer a multi-course dinner with wine pairings as an add-on; arrange it ahead of time rather than assuming it’s on tap.
Sherri is a licensed massage therapist — she trained at the Pacific Center for Awareness and Bodywork in Kauai — and offers sessions on-site. That’s the backbone of the Romance Package, which also includes a welcome bottle of wine and a cheese plate when you arrive. If you’re marking an anniversary, say so when you book.
The recognition is real and easy to check: TripAdvisor gave Amber House a Certificate of Excellence in 2015 and its Travelers’ Choice award in 2021 and again in 2025. Rooms run around $311 a night. Rates, availability, and booking are on the inn’s own site — amberhousebb.com.
